A Peripeheral Vision

a fallen tree, half underwater, surrounded by fronds of an underwater plant colored purple and lilly pads

As I turned my head the scene changed suddenly and completely. I turned back
only to find no difference at all.
Baffled, I moved my head in strange ways but everything stayed as I had seen
before. I turned away, slowly, and as the tree moved into my peripheral vision it
changed!
The plants reaching from the depths turned a regal and unnatural purple, as if a
funeral shroud lay open around the tree. The log floating above the trunk took on
the feeling of a scepter laid upon its breast.
I turned back only to find it normal again. Through this all, Kala lay with his head on
his paws, in a seemingly mournful mood and I wondered if he was able to see fully
what I was not.
