Kala and I first entered the Forest by way of a path lit by golden sunlight and lined
with pine trees.
Warmth filled me as I walked;
the bright blue sky through the sparse canopy;
the golden earth of the embankment on my right;
the blackberry, salal and wild roses lightly caressing my cheeks without injury.
Each detail gave the impression of necessity – as if placed – each by its neighbor in
near perfect harmony.
I felt we were welcomed. It was as if, with each step, the receding path invited us to
continue on, deeper into the Forest.
